RORUA: SUPERNOVA (3° FULL ALBUM) - 2022

ITA: SUPERNOVA è il terzo full album delle Rorua e, già dal titolo, si presenta come un lavoro che vuole parlare di esplosioni interiori: quelle che distruggono, quelle che salvano, e quelle che trasformano.  La title track del progetto è “Perfect Disaster”, e non è un caso: il concetto del “disastro perfetto” diventa una chiave di lettura dell’intero album.  Prima dell’uscita del disco sono stati pubblicati tre singoli di supporto. Black and White affiancata da On a Mission. Poi è arrivato SUPERNOVA, accompagnato da I Wrote a Letter to Myself e Neverland.  Infine Apple ha completato il quadro insieme a Voice e Masquerade. Ogni singolo è stato pubblicato anche con le rispettive Reimagined Rorua Versions. Eliminando le tracce già note dai singoli, nel complesso l’album contiene 4 brani completamente inediti e originali: TEN, Perfect Disaster, Heaven & Hell, FREAK. 

Nel suo insieme, SUPERNOVA sembra muoversi come un percorso emotivo. Black and White racconta una mente che si spegne e si chiude, come se il mondo perdesse colore e tutto diventasse attesa, meccanica, sopravvivenza. Ma subito dopo On a Mission ribalta la prospettiva: qui la protagonista smette di chiedere permesso, decide di scegliere per sé, di uscire dalle dinamiche ambigue e dalle promesse vuote. In mezzo a queste tensioni entra TEN, che parla della percezione instabile di sé: giorni in cui ci si sente invincibili e giorni in cui ci si sente niente, come se l’identità oscillasse tra estremi che fanno paura. Ed è proprio in questa fragilità che arriva la title track, Perfect Disaster, che mette a fuoco il punto di rottura: l’ansia, la paralisi, il sentirsi spettatori della propria vita… fino a quando qualcosa scatta e la persona decide di liberarsi, di smettere di essere usata, di smettere di restare ferma. La traccia SUPERNOVA amplia tutto in una dimensione quasi cosmica: parla di resistenza, di luce che resta anche quando si cade, di evoluzione attraverso le prove. Poi Heaven & Hell porta il discorso su un amore contraddittorio, irresistibile e tossico allo stesso tempo, dove il desiderio diventa dipendenza e la passione si confonde con la sofferenza. I Wrote a Letter to Myself aggiunge un livello ancora più intimo: è un dialogo con la propria versione passata, un modo per riconoscere le ferite e trasformarle in crescita, senza negare ciò che è stato. Con Apple l’album entra in un immaginario simbolico che parla di apparenze e verità: la bellezza come trappola, la menzogna che luccica, il prezzo di un’identità costruita per piacere agli altri. In risposta, Voice sembra raccontare il bisogno di ascoltarsi davvero e scegliere la libertà, anche quando fa male, anche quando comporta un distacco. E Masquerade chiude questa parte con il tema della maschera: ciò che si mostra, ciò che si nasconde, i segreti, l’ipocrisia, e il rischio di perdersi dentro un ruolo. A quel punto arriva FREAK, che non chiede più scusa: prende l’etichetta di “strana”, “diversa”, “sbagliata” e la trasforma in potere. È un brano che parla di rivincita identitaria, di orgoglio, di appartenenza a sé stessi. Infine Neverland suona come un addio necessario: lasciare il luogo mentale dell’infanzia, dei sogni comodi, delle illusioni, per inseguire qualcosa di vero, anche se fa paura. Non è solo “andare via”, è scegliere di crescere. 

Come i precedenti lavori, anche SUPERNOVA è disponibile in una Fan-Club Edition, con una copertina alternativa per ogni membro e 8 tracce aggiuntive, che raccolgono tutte le versioni re-immaginate pubblicate nei singoli. 

ENG: SUPERNOVA is the third full album by Rorua, and even from its title it presents itself as a project that wants to speak about inner explosions: the ones that destroy, the ones that save, and the ones that transform. The project’s title track is “Perfect Disaster,” and that’s no coincidence—the idea of a “perfect disaster” becomes a key to reading the entire album. Before the album’s release, three supporting singles were unveiled. “Black and White,” paired with “On a Mission,” came first. Then “SUPERNOVA” arrived, accompanied by “I Wrote a Letter to Myself” and “Neverland.” Finally, “Apple” completed the picture alongside “Voice” and “Masquerade.” Each single was also released with its respective Reimagined Rorua Versions. Excluding the tracks already known from the singles, the album includes four completely new and original songs: “TEN,” “Perfect Disaster,” “Heaven & Hell,” and “FREAK.”

As a whole, SUPERNOVA moves like an emotional journey. “Black and White” portrays a mind shutting down and closing in on itself, as if the world were losing color and everything became waiting—mechanical survival. But right after, “On a Mission” flips the perspective: the protagonist stops asking for permission, chooses herself, and walks away from ambiguous dynamics and empty promises. Between these tensions comes “TEN,” which speaks about an unstable sense of self—days when you feel invincible and days when you feel like nothing, as if identity were swinging between extremes that are hard to bear. And it’s precisely within that fragility that the title track, “Perfect Disaster,” hits: it focuses on the breaking point—anxiety, paralysis, feeling like a spectator in your own life… until something snaps and the person chooses to break free, to stop being used, to stop standing still. The track “SUPERNOVA” expands everything into an almost cosmic dimension: it speaks of resilience, of a light that remains even when you fall, of evolving through every trial. Then “Heaven & Hell” shifts the focus to a contradictory kind of love—irresistible and toxic at the same time—where desire turns into dependency and passion gets tangled with pain. “I Wrote a Letter to Myself” adds an even more intimate layer: a dialogue with your past self, a way to acknowledge wounds and transform them into growth without denying what happened. With “Apple,” the album enters a symbolic imagery about appearances and truth: beauty as a trap, lies that gleam, the price of an identity built to please others. In response, “Voice” seems to tell the story of truly listening to yourself and choosing freedom—even when it hurts, even when it requires distance. And “Masquerade” closes this section with the theme of masks: what we show, what we hide, secrets, hypocrisy, and the risk of losing yourself inside a role. At that point “FREAK” arrives and stops apologizing: it takes the label of being “strange,” “different,” “wrong,” and turns it into power. It’s a song about reclaiming identity, pride, and belonging to yourself. Finally, “Neverland” sounds like a necessary goodbye: leaving behind the mental place of childhood, comfortable dreams, and illusions, in order to chase something real—even if it’s frightening. It’s not simply “going away”—it’s choosing to grow up.

Like their previous releases, SUPERNOVA is also available in a Fan-Club Edition, featuring an alternative cover for each member and eight additional tracks collecting all the reimagined versions previously released with the singles.
